DWARF FORTRESS v0.27.169.33a

(the image doesn’t represent dwarf fortress graphic)

Dwarf Fortress is a single-player fantasy game. You can control a dwarven outpost or an adventurer in a randomly generated, persistent world. Although Dwarf Fortress is still in a work in progress, many features have already been implemented. The world is randomly generated with distinct civilizations, dozens of towns, hundreds of caves and regions with various wildlife. The world persists as long as you like, over many games, recording history and tracking changes.

NOTE:the screenshot is how dwarf fortress could look like in a (very distant) future, on the author page on the to-do list there is an option to use custom tileset, currently the game graphic is ascii (text-mode). If you like this game support its author with a donation.

  4. Hi Dan, yea i agree a tileset like this would be awesome, i think it is a graphic concept, no actual game is using this pixel graphic..

    Hello everybody.
The graphics in the screenshot would be awesome, and there are graphics that you can get, but sadly they are nothing like this. Dwarf Fortress will never have graphics like that, as you cant make the ground tiles look that good and not cause problems, according to my knowledge.
Anyway, get dwarf fortress and slaughter some elves!

@Urist McDwarf: That is not exactly true. Someone has made a 3d visualizer. This doesn’t do much more than just create a 3d visualization of the map, but eventually Toady might create a module that would allow a whole load of custom graphic alternatives.

To say that it would never have it is just a blatant lie.
