Alter Aeon is a type of game commonly called a MUD, also known as a Multi-User Dungeon or Multi-User Dimension. It is an on-line game where people from all over the world can play together and interact in a huge virtual world. In a lot of ways, this is similar to other online games such as Ultima Online and World of Warcraft.

MUDs differ from most other online games in one significant way: MUDs do everything with text and the written word, and generally have no graphics or visualization.

Lack of graphics is in some ways an advantage. Rather than focus on creating skins for every object, monster, and place in the game, MUDs focus on creating an outstanding game. Alter Aeon has a huge world, countless quests and other things to do, for all types of players at all skill levels. Some people have been playing Alter Aeon for over ten years!

Alter Aeon is one of the most blind friendly multiplayer games on the web. Over half of their players are blind or visually impaired, and their dedicated staff is constantly on the lookout for trouble spots.

Does it accept any type of commands? Like enter a valley full of dragons and kill all of them with my Kord 6P50-3 machinegun?

    • i dunno, since i didn’t try it.. i am not a big fan of roguelike or mud games..
but.. i think that dwarf fortress comes closer to that experience..

Nah, there’s definitely a limit to what kind of commands you can issue. And if you try to hack something up without a suitable hacking weapon, then clearly you can’t do it.

There are some pretty cool ways to get mass destruction though. One of the more amusing ones is to layer a high end weapon with enchantments until it’s just below the breaking point, then ‘detonate’ it in battle by throwing another high level enchant on it. It usually ends up killing the caster, but sometimes that’s worth it.

  3. On dwarf fortress or alter aeon? 😆
