Magic: The Gathering (freeware adaptations)

Here is a list of freeware adptations of Magic: The Gathering, the famous trading card game. This programs can be used to play card games and create decks.

Magic Set Editor

Magic Set Editor, is a program with which you can design your own cards for popular trading card games. MSE can then generate images of those cards that you can print or upload to the internet. Magic Set Editor also has a statistics window that will give useful information about your set, like the average mana cost, number of rares, etc. When you have finished your set, you can export it to an HTML file to use on the Internet, or to Apprentice so you can play with your cards online.

FireMox (previously known as Magic-Project)

FireMox is Magic:The Gathering over LAN or Internet, alone or against another player (need IP of your opponent). The program is the judge : you play with the true rules. Firemox can also emulate another TBS. Written in Java, works on Mac, Windows and Linux.

Forge (previously known as MTG Forge)

Forge is an implementation of Magic the Gathering that lets you play against a computer AI opponent using most of the rules of a real game. You can construct decks for you and the computer to play with, currently about 13831 (and counting) cards are available. There are included over 100 schemes, vanguards and planes. You can also play in a draft, sealed deck format or in a gauntlet against the computer. There is a new variant game mode that lets you play against multiple computer opponents. Currently, this program only lets you play against the computer, you cannot play against another human player over the Internet.

Lakey CCG

LackeyCCG is a tool for playing any CCG (collectible card game) online (or offline in solitaire mode). It’s also a great tool for building and designing decks. You can create your own CCG or download a plugin of an existing game and play with your friends.

Octgn

OCtgn [ok-tuh-gon] is a virtual table top with an integrated player lobby and chat system that supports custom card and board games.

Daring Apprentice

Daring Apprentice is a 3d Apprentice-like Magic: the Gathering and any other CCG tabletop. It is open source, 3d, aiming for ease of use and being lightweight.

Wagic, the homebrew

Wagic is an open source Trading Card Game simulation, made by card games fans and backed up by a large community of players and modders. The project has been active since 2008 and supports a massive amount of cards. Wagic is especially adapted to mobile devices (PSP, iPhone, iPad, Android,…) but also works on Windows and Linux PC.

Magma is a funny program that allows players to play Magic against the PC!

Cockatrice

Cockatrice is an open-source multiplatform software for playing card games, such as Magic: The Gathering, over a network. Fully client-server based to prevent any kind of cheating, though it supports single-player games without a network interface as well. Both client and server are written in Qt 4.
