Quake II AI is an experimental tech demo created by Microsoft using Muse AI, an artificial intelligence model designed for game development. It generates gameplay sequences inspired by the classic 1997 game Quake II, allowing players to experience a dynamically generated version of the game in a web browser.

However, this AI-generated version has several limitations, including blurred graphics, unresponsive controls, and short memory, which causes objects and enemies to disappear if they’re out of view for more than a second. Microsoft describes it as a tool for rapid prototyping and game preservation, rather than a direct replacement for traditional game development.

NOT BAD for a start in my opinion.

Besides Quake II AI, here are some other AI-driven projects:

  • AI Dungeon – A fully AI-generated text-based adventure where players can create unique stories in an open-ended world.
  • GAN Theft Auto – A research project that uses neural networks to generate environments inspired by the Grand Theft Auto series.
  • Voyager – An AI agent that learns to play Minecraft autonomously, improving its skills without human intervention.
