The Elder Scrolls: Arena is the first chapter of an epic fantasy adventure. Years in the making, Arena heralded a new level of interactivity and depth. The full version of Arena is available for download and playable through a DOS emulator. For Windows, Linux and Mac.
This past Saturday marked the 20th anniversary of id Software’s legendary FPS game, Wolfenstein 3D. You can play a browser version of the game and for a limited period of time iOS users can download Wolfenstein 3D Classic Platinum for free on iTunes.
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls, Bethesda have released The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall as a free download. To run this game on newer systems, you will need to use an emulation program like DOSBox (windows version included in the zip). Using DosBox this game is playable on Windows, Linux and Mac.
Daggerfall featured one of the first true 3D worlds on a massive scale, with a game world the size of Great Britain. The game had twice as many features as Arena, a deeper role-playing system, and helped usher in an RPG renaissance in 1996.
