999 players in a fps?

posted in FPS, NEWS, PINNED NEWS, RTS, VIDEO | Posted by FireSword

So what do you think, in the future we will play fps with 1000 people at the same time online? This video shows that the netcode technology is already available, and games like total war showed that graphics limit for models ain t a big problem. I also wonder if they could apply those technologies to other types of games, like rts…

Battlefield 3 is a nice game but i was a little disappointed by the 64 players limit, i was expecting 128 or 256 battles.

Here a short list of massive online games i heard of:

Mount and Blade Warband, with a special dedicate server version you can play up to 225 players.

Joint Operations, 150 players, but tbh it was boring.

Never see an RTS going more than 8 players, will see how End of Nations will do its 50 players.

Total War think if about every single soldier on the field is human controlled..

MAG (ps3) – Fps with 256 players.

Bonus Video – 1000 warriors battle in Skyrim..

Bonus Video – Kingdom under fire 2..

RTS games with human units would be awesome.

There are a few big servers for PR too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PR8Cz1gxbrI
I have also heard Planetstorm had a lot of players in multiplayer.
